The Bearded Skipper and Me

The Bearded Skipper

One of my favourite days in PEI entailed me randomly hanging out with the Bearded Skipper.  I was in North Rustico checking things out and came across him putting together lobster traps.  Walking by him I was dying to chat to him and take some photos….I worked up the courage and walked back and started talking to him about his traps.  It ended up with me sitting, shooting the breeze and taking photos while he worked away very slowly on his traps.  He was in no rush as lobster season was over for the year and he had a lot of time to work on his traps.  It seems that lobsters are particular about the colour of the net used….from his count the tan colour catches more lobster.  I think building traps where he was more of a social thing as he seems to love to talk to people. Anyone that would come up to him and ask him questions he was more than happy to have a chat. If you ever find yourself in PEI make sure you go to North Rustico and say hello, I’m sure you will end up staying longer than you though! 🙂
